HOT OFF THE PRESS
Do you have an uncommon career backstory? VoyageMIA is a local online business magazine that features small business owners with inspiring career stories to share with their readers. They approached me this month to write about mine with all its twists and turns.
You can read the feature article HERE
Needless to say, it is a challenge to select highlights of your backstory and create a timeline of relevant events then write about them in a compelling essay. I decided it was worth it to share “what you don’t know about me” with colleagues.
Learning in depth about each other’s backgrounds helps us appreciate and respect even more the professionals we work with and are considering partnering with. Your career backstory reveals the surprising experiences you bring to the table.
Video Storytelling as Your Feature Article
If you want colleagues and prospects to know you substantively, then consider a backstory video about you and your company that highlights “what you don’t know about me/us.” The length can be whatever you decide to condense or expand your story or a select portion of it.
The Olympics, for example, will feature backstories about individual athletes in videos and print articles. Every athlete has a story. They will be fascinating to help us appreciate the challenges, sacrifices, demands and roller coaster life of what it takes to be an elite athlete.
In just one minute, this story-commercial produced about Paralympic Gold Medal swimmer Jessica Long gives her surprising backstory and moves us to tears at the end.
Granted this condensed dramatization of Long’s actual story is an expensive video production. However, your story can still be a creative video presentation on a budget to post on your Website, share on social media platforms and include in your email signature.
Let your target audience learn the “what you don’t know about us” side. It will humanize you and your company and persuade viewers to work with you instead of your competition. We can help you do this in video and print.
The Pompano Beach CRA commissioned us to produce storytelling videos showcasing revitalization projects in beginning, during and completion stages. This one about the Atlantic Blvd. Bridge won two video awards:

Capturing Events with Photography
We captured the lively Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, Board Installation & Awards Presentation at the Hillsboro Club last month. Business and political luminaries from Pompano Beach and Broward County arrived wearing the colorful hot pink summer theme. The beautiful, fun, genial event is an annual Chamber highlight. This one also marked the passing of the President/CEO helm from beloved Jeannie McIntyre to Evencia Janvier. Congratulations Evencia.

Pompano Beach Chamber Construction Luncheon
This month’s luncheon featured a presentation by Chamber member Krsti Ronyak, CEO & Founder of Construction Angels, a humanitarian non-profit providing immediate financial assistance and grief counseling to young children and the spouse left behind when a construction worker is fatality injured on the job.
Kristi spoke about the most recent donations the organization made to two families of construction workers who were killed in the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge. To donate or volunteer to Construction Angels: www.constructionangels.us
